Viljandi and Järveveere, July 2018

Summer is a busy time for a bus driver – people move around a lot and often choose to do so by bus. Nevertheless, 32 busy bus drivers managed to find a summer day (25 July) to get together, adventure around Estonia, talk work and relax.

The meeting point was set in the heritage culture centre Viljandi. The extraordinarily beautiful summer day and perfect location made everyone hum some familiar tunes about the town of Viljandi.

The drivers from Tallinn side of the country were transported by a Setra S80 and from Tartu by a Mercedes Benz O303. After catching up briefly with the other groups it was time to stretch the legs tired from sitting and walk around in the summery town. A local guide Heli Grosberg introduced the local sites and told exciting stories about the Viljandi fortress hills and other sights. The town of Viljandi welcomed the visitors with numerous sculptures, a unique suspension bridge, romantic fortress ruins, beautiful lakeside scenery and renovated wooden architecture. Those interested got to visit the water tower and enjoy the breath-taking view of the city enveloped in green. After the tour, the groups gathered to the buses to continue towards lake Võrtsjärv.

Järveveere guesthouse gave the bus tourists a warm welcome. The guesthouse located North-West from the lake provided an exquisite view over the opposite shore in the distance. The guesthouse facilities include several log houses, saunas, pools, barrel pools, archery and disc golf courses. Before the work talk, the visitors got to indulge in pastries and fruits and also take a look around the guesthouse territory.

After the meal, the focus was on work. Chairman of the management board of Lux Express, Hugo Osula analysed what is going on the bus industry, compared the company’s current situation with what was happening a decade ago and spoke about future plans. At the end of his speech he thanked two bus drivers who were retiring – Johannes Allik and Toomas Tiitson – for their long-term loyal work and also gave them named watches according to the company tradition. Since Hugo Osula stressed the importance of customer service, he introduced the quality manager of Lux Express, Liina Kungla.

Liina involved the listeners in her speech and together we analysed the operations of a bus driver from the client’s point of view and looked at solutions for possible miscommunications. When the brainstorming ended, everyone got to relax according to their own preference – some opted for pools to find relief for the heat, others went for a swim in the lake, and some simply chatted with colleagues.

After a rich dinner the sauna was ready. There were enough people for the archery track and the volley ball field.

The beautiful summer day was fun and informative.
