We visited Paunküla

Bus driver Kaia Laur looks back:
“In the beginning of July the members of Estonian Bus Drivers Association gathered for another outing, this time in Paide – the heart of Estonia. The programme included a visit to the Wittenstein history centre. We arrived in style with vintage buses at the rampart tower where the virtual exhibition of our country’s history through out the time is set up. People from Tartu and Võru arrived in Mercedes Benz 0 303 and people from Tallinn arrived in two buses – the eye candy and transportation was offered by Setra S80 and Ikarus 255. It was great to meet and talk to people to whom you can usually only wave at on the road. I was especially happy to see my driving instructor Kalev, under whose strict guidance a year ago I took the first steps as a bus driver.

The history centre was very nice with different floors exhibiting different periods of time, from prehistoric times to today. We got to experience how life was and food tasted during different eras. Then we travelled by bus to Paunküla wellbeing centre where cooling drinks and delicious lunch was waiting for us. Once the hunger was relieved it was time for constructive chat – Hugo Osula, Gunnar Obolenski and Tõnu Piibur spoke about their activities and future plans.

After lunch and presentations it was time for sports and relaxing activities – everyone who wanted had the change to get acquainted with bows, swim in the pool or enjoy the sauna. Shooting the bow was new for everyone and thus there were many who wanted to try. Later, two teams were formed and the accuracy competition begun. The weather was nice and as the day went on, more and more clothes were discarded.

By dinnertime the archery competition was done, men with the most accurate hand and eye had been decided and the faster ones had been to sauna, too. Chatting in a relaxed environment made time fly by as fast as the road goes under the bus wheels. Many spent the night at Paunküla. I was among those who made it home at night because the Song Festival that had just finished had taken its toll also. I am very happy with the outing and looking forward to the next invitation.”
