EBÜ members outing to Rakvere
At the beginning of the summer the changes in the Estonian bus industry gave ground to many questions.
This is why EBÜ management decided to organise a meeting for the association members in the beginning of July, where people familiar with the current situation in the bus sector gave presentations and answered questions.
Rakvere was selected as the location because the distance from Tartu, Jõhvi and Tallinn is almost the same.
The group from Tallinn travelled in the timeless Ikarus 55, which according to its sign was on its way to Warsaw. But we did not need to go that far. Our friendly driver agreed to take us to Rakvere and make a detour to Kiiu.
From Kiiu we picked up some more people and while there we also had a chance to admire the latest accomplishments by the vintage technology restorers.
Since the vintage technology exhibition in Kiiu was so impressive we arrived to Rakvere a bit late and at the local bus station our colleagues from Jõhvi were already eagerly expecting our red bus.
By the time the Ikarus 55 parked itself at the fortress’ car park, the people from Tartu had already taken over the fortress by storm. They greeted us with big smiles and informed us of the situation – everything was ready for our arrival, the tour guide was waiting and lunch was to be served in an hour. So, all we had to do then was take a picture with the timeless bus and then go and learn about the history of the fortress and medieval cuisine.
The fortress tour was very informative and educational, and we got to try many medieval activities ourselves. Mid-day cannon shot and the cannon loading ritual prior to that probably impressed the most.
The lunch was thematic, lavish and very rich.
Until lunch time there had been no rain, so when we were getting ready to leave, all the water from the sky came down in one pour and the way from the fortress to the bus was quite wet and windy.
But we were not put off by such a change in weather. The rest of the programme continued under a roof but there was no escape from getting wet – after a busy seminar day we got to relax at the Aqua Spa water and sauna centre.
In the Aqua conference centre seminar room the Chairman of the Board at Mootor Grupp AS, Hugo Osula and Chairman of the Board at Eesti Buss OÜ, Gunnar Obolenski talked about current topics and replied to questions.
Our day in Rakvere ended with relaxing at the Aqua Spa and having a great time in the good company of colleagues.
Everyone who attended were very happy with the day – the questions about the coming changes got answered and the bodies and spirits revived.
